My BIGGEST Mistake Selling On eBay

By Duane Hope

My BIGGEST mistake selling on eBay wasn’t just selling in the wrong market – it was actually the deadly “Boat Captain Syndrome”.

Let me explain…..

As you probably know by now, back in 2005 I was ready to just throw in the “white towel” and give up!

I was sick and tired of struggling on eBay working 7 days a week, 10, 15, and even 20 hours a day.

I was sacrificing everything trying to figure out “what to sell on eBay” that would make me and my family MORE THAN ENOUGH MONEY so I could put a roof over our heads, food on the table, pay our bills and at least take my kids to get a happy meal every once in a while at McDonald’s.

But no matter what I sold  -  I was so determined to make it work that I suffered from what’s called the deadly “Boat Captain Syndrome” which means that no matter what I was selling on eBay – I was either:

  • “emotionally attached” to it
  • or, it was my “pride-n-joy”
  • or, it was my “own idea”
  • or, it was something that “I wanted” the market to buy

And because of that, when the “market” didn’t buy my stuff like I thought they should have – instead of me cutting it loose and moving on to better “markets”…..  I sank with the ship TRYING to save it and make it work (BIG mistake).

Today (6 years later) life is a little bit different.

I don’t suffer from the deadly “Boat Captain Syndrome” anymore.

And the reason why is because I adopted a new belief 6 years ago that says…..

“It’s Okay To Let Things Go That Isn’t Working Because
I Have Nothing To Lose And Everything To Gain”

And guess what?

You don’t have to suffer from the deadly “Boat Captain Syndrome” anymore either!

It’s okay to let things go.

Please listen carefully…….

If what you’re currently selling on eBay isn’t making you MORE THAN ENOUGH MONEY right now to put a roof over your head, food on the table and pay ALL of your bills with plenty of money left over to fulfill your dreams and live YOUR desired lifestyle – then abandon ship!

You DO NOT have to SINK to the BOTTOM of the ocean!

And the reason why is because there are too many outrageously profitable markets out there with pathetically weak competition that will ALLOW you to make MORE THAN ENOUGH MONEY!

Here’s what I want you to do next….

If you’re anywhere near where I was and you’re tired of struggling to make MORE THAN ENOUGH MONEY – then do yourself a favor and go check out the  Auction Market Blueprint. It’s just that simple!

Have a super great week selling on eBay!

Blessings,

Duane Hope

Duane,

My wife and I was just talking about that the other day. It’s funny how sometimes – even when you know you’re sinking – you still keep trying to make it work.

I needed that push!

My wife is purchasing the Auction Market Blueprint right now as I type this.

Thanks,

Greg

Hi Duane,

I feel like your reading my mind!

I’ve been soooo emotionally attached to what I’ve been selling that even though it’s not making me more than enough money, I keep trying to make it work even though I know deep inside that its never going to.

But I keep telling myself every day that “if I can just sell one more then I’ll make it”. But that one more hasn’t happened and its been 3 years now!

I’m going to get the Auction Market Blueprint as well.

Thanks for sharing! I needed that wake up call.

Congratulations on your decision!

And you’re welcome for that wake up call :-)

Hi Duane,

I just wanted to let everybody know that your course is awesome!

I purchased it last week after sinking for 7 years and I’m so thankful that I did.

I thought I knew a little something about selling on eBay after all of that time but I must admit that the Auction Market Blueprint has over shadowed me by light years.

My only regret is that I didn’t have your course years ago!

Thank you Duane!

Susan

BTW: Thank you for the wonderful surprise bonus!

Hi Duane,

Man! You hit the nail right on the head!

My whole problem is that I haven’t been willing to let go because it makes me feel like I’m failure and so I’ve been trying to make it work.

But I see now that it’s just my belief and I can change that.

Thanks for throwing me a life jacket!

I’m headed there now to get it.

I felt the same way…..

But what I found out was that failure is sinking with the ship :-)

You’re welcome for the life jacket!

Hi Duane,

Being a single mom with three kids doesn’t leave much money so I just wanted to thank you for offering a $99 payment plan that allowed me to get your course now and to express my sincere gratitude for your wisdom and knowledge.

Your work is the best I’ve ever seen in the 10+ years of selling on eBay. I LOVE the “Market Cooler” and my surprise bonus too!

You’re an answered prayer!

Hi Betty,

I remember what it was like to open the car door up at the drive through hoping I would find the .09 cents that I was short trying to buy my kids a Happy Meal.

So you’re welcome for the payment plan.

And it’s very humbling to hear your kind words too!

Thank You!

Okay Duane, you got me!

I’m so tired of struggling to pay the bills! No matter how hard I work its never enough. And even though I knew I should of bailed I didn’t because I’ve been emotionally attached.

I’m ready for your course!

Mike

BTW: I meet a guy the other day in one of the eBay forums named Clyde Bousarge. He was so excited about the money he was making from a new market that he found. So I asked him how he found the market and he said….. your course! Talk about a small world!

Hi Duane,

I just wanted to post a little testimonial for those who may be sitting on the fence post.

“Buy Duane’s Auction Market Blueprint Course Today”!

Whatever you have to do to get the money to buy his course – then do it!

What I’ve learned in just 8 days is more than I’ve learned in the last 8.5 years of actually selling on eBay and buying hundreds of courses.

Duane’s course is simple, easy to follow and deadly accurate. And not to mention that he has over delivered on everything he’s promised (even a surprise bonus that I had no clue that I was getting).

I’ve read many times where sellers have mentioned that his forward thinking is light years ahead – I agree! And now I know why you have to sign a NDA.

Thanks Duane!

Isn’t that amazing that the same quality (stubbornness) that makes an entrepreneur like Steve Jobs or DH come up with life changing business ideas, is the very same quality that gives rise to the “Boat Captain Syndrome”!

And one who learns to harness the awesome raw power of stubbornness, using coaches and teachers, is the one who can change people’s lives.

Duane, thanks for your astute and timely observations.
You’re not only helping people make money, more importantly you’re changing people’s lives and the way the look at things.

And your course is teaching me the discipline to get off the “boat” and get myself a SHIP :)

Thanks

You made an awesome point here!

Thank you for creating time to voice your thoughts. I really appreciate you.

PS. Thank you for helping out in the “Market Cooler” too. It takes a very special person to help out others when there is no “monetary gain”.

I purchased the course because I am pretty much in the same boat as Duane once was. I am struggling just to put food on the table and support my family. Recently laid off from a job that I hated going to anyways on top of that. So I wanted to have the best chance to turn my luck around, and the Auction Market Blueprint I believe was my best chance. I had to save every spare penny I could to buy it, but so far the course has been great and money well spent.

I know I haven’t posted in a while but my sales have finally been much higher for the last few months so I’ve been spending much of time time filling orders.

I’m not sure all the increase is due to changes I made or just happened for an external reason, as some product sales doubled without me making any changes at all in those listings, but sales of other products at least quadrupled with changes I made to how I list them, so it’s likely a some of both.

Things I did was list more items per day while still respecting the duplicate item policy, I’ve used some of your tips you previously gave me by making different package deals allowing me to make different listings for essentially the same products (letting me around the duplicate item policy), this made a huge difference.

Although my sales increased a lot, they had fallen dramatically before, and so now I’m just slightly better off than before I had my major fall in sales and still not making enough money.

I’m not sure by how much I can still increase my product sales and thinking it might be worth selling additional products. The problem is that every single product I sell is thing I make/manufacture myself entirely at home and I simply don’t have any ideas for other things I can mass produce from home.

Because of this I’m thinking I should also get into reselling other companies’ products, except I simply wouldn’t even know where to start since ever since I started selling over a decade ago I’ve only ever sold things that I make myself. What would be a good place to start to learn about selling other companies’ products on eBay? I’m also in Canada, so if I could have items shipped from within the US it would help, because to have things shipped from US to Canada and then back to the US will be a huge waste of shipping expenses and resources unless I focus on selling to Canada, but currently probably 80-90% of my sales are to USA.

Should I keep working on trying to boost the sales of my own products, or also learn on how to sell other companies’ products? I do have one product I’m sure would sell like hot cakes during a depression if I could just reach enough people.

Thanks

Hi Sacha,

Congratulations on the increase of your sales!

As far as selling other products on eBay – I would encourage you to continue selling your own products since it’s making you “cash now” money while you research other markets to sell in.

Then, after you’re done with researching and you know what to sell – then launch that business as well.

The best advice I can give you about “how to find outrageously profitable markets on eBay with pathetically weak competition so you’ll know exactly what to sell for insane profits” is…..

Go get the Auction Market Blueprint Course if it’s still available :-)

It will take you by the hand and walk you step-by-step on how to do this.

Have a super great week selling on eBay!

Blessings,
Duane
