How To Make Money On eBay & Beat The Recession

By Duane Hope

Okay, so I’ve received a ton of emails lately from sellers asking me “how to make money on eBay” during this recession. It seems like the media has done a great job of putting most eBay sellers in a state of “poverty consciousness” which has them ”paralyzed” with fear from making money on eBay.

Most of them have been asking if they should…

(A) Start selling cheaper items….

(B) Cut their prices to the bone…

(C) Find a different market….

(D) Quit and go get a job…..

My answer is E which is none of the above.

Here’s why….

There is one “little specific thing” that we’ve done to make money on eBay since this recession started to ensure that it doesn’t affect any of our eBay businesses.

But the funny thing is - this is the same “little thing” that we’ve practiced since back when we first started selling on eBay. And because we have done this consistently day-in and day-out, none of our eBay businesses have been affected by this storm the least little bit.

The one “little specific thing” that I’m talking about is ……FOCUS.

You see, one of my mentors once taught me that there were only two methods to building the tallest building in town.

The first method is to go around town and tear down everybody else’s building. And once you do that then you’ll have the tallest. But there is a problem with that method. And the problem is….

“Now you’re NOT building anymore, your DESTROYING!

And nobody wants to do business with a destroyer, right?

The other method is to FOCUS on YOUR building. In other words, put your “blinders” on and focus intently on….

  • YOUR MARKET
  • YOUR PRODUCT
  • YOUR TRAFFIC SKILLS
  • YOUR CONVERSION SKILLS
  • YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS
  • YOUR UP-SELLS, CROSS-SELLS & BACK-END OFFERS
  • Etc., Etc., Etc., Etc., Etc……

When you FOCUS on YOUR building, you become congruently “in tune” with everything about your business, your market, what they want, how they want it and when they want it to the point that even the storms of recession doesn’t fade it the least little bit.

Here’s a video below showing you the inside of one of our little-eitty-bitty eBay test businesses. Pay attention to the odds that are stacked against this business and more importantly, the three things that I share with you to do that will allow you to instantly start FOCUSING in on your business and beat the recession regardless of what the media is telling you…..

Okay – that’s it for this post.

You’ll definitely want to tune in to next weeks post as I will be sharing with you one of our eBay business models that we call ”TSUNAMI Marketing”.

It instantly creates a consistent flood of sales in any market – at any time – anywhere in the world (it actually worked to good – eBay called us to verify that the sales were legit and to make sure that no one had hacked into our account)!

Hi Paj,

Thank you for taking your time to post your question…..

Your “conversion skills” is the ability to be able to “convert” that “visitor” into a “customer”.

And that is what your auction page should be designed to do. It should have a “strategic layout” that guides your visitors straight to your MWR (Most Wanted Response) like a laser beam.

And your MWR should always be to get them to click on the “buy it now” or “bid now” button depending on if you have fixed priced auctions or dutch style auctions.

I hope this helps. Have a great day!

Blessings – Duane

Hi guys,

I know this might be a bit off topic but seeing that a bunch of you own websites, where would the best place be to host. Someone recommended I use Blue Host for $6.95 a month which seems like a great deal. Anyone here on http://www.undergroundauctionlab.com using them?

Hi -

Welcome to the UnderGroundAuctionLab!

That’s a great question….

There’s lots of good choices out there but don’t always go for cheapest price. You want to make sure that your hosting company owns their servers, is reliable, has dedicated customer service and a tech team there to assist you if/when your server goes down.

Do your research and choose a company who isn’t focused on just making money by packing their servers with thousands of sites.

I have never used BlueHost personally but I have heard good things about them. So you should do pretty well there. I personally use ixwebhosting for all my hosting services. I had some problems in the beginning but they took care of me and I’ve been running smooth sailing since. You can check them out here:

I hope this helps….

Hey Duane,

I appreciate all the info and being part of this training.

I am a single mother of 2 boys and it is a constant struggle to say the least.

I was a hair stylist for 15 years and just got where I was dreading work everyday, so I decided to explore the net and try my best to find something.

I started selling on eBay hoping that it would help me out in those hard times, and along with my eBay I went through a million SO CALLED systems and got pretty discouraged.

I then decided to pour myself into my eBay business, learning everything I could and am now proud to say that I am a Powerseller and High Rated Seller :)

I still have a long way to go in reaching my goals but hey I’m closer than alot of people in my small town of Tennessee ever thought I would be. I like your southern accent by the way :)

I’ll stop rambling now and just say thanks and looking forward to learning more from you guys.

Hi Leah….

Congratulations on your well deserved accomplishments!

Speaking of being a single mom – my mother raised five of us all by herself. So I have a really good idea of what you battle day in and day out.

It takes courage, discipline and faith to step away from the normal grind like you did to better yourself. So in case nobody has told you lately – we are PROUD of you!

Keep up the great work!

I have been a buyer and seller on Ebay for a number of years, and have from time to time thought about creating a income using Ebay as an online store. I have seen more then my share of Ebay videos and how too books. Most of them have been pretty useless.

Duane has been a refreshing breath of air in my quest towards learning how to do Ebay the way it should be done. So much so that I have been passing him on to friends and relatives.

That is something I do not do lightly.

When I do open my Ebay store, around the first of the year, it will be with the knowledge that the success of my little enterprise will be improved one hundred percent because of the things Duane has been shearing with me and others.

I intend to study and review everything he puts out here. And then I intend to do it all over again.

Thanks Duane!

Hi Vicki,

WOW!

That took my breath away….. not to mention that it was very humbling to read.

I feel blessed, Vicki, to know that in some small way I’ve been able to help you and others with your eBay businesses.

Thank you for trusting in me enough to invite your friends and relatives. I know that’s something that most folks don’t take lightly. That’s why it means the world to me to hear that you have :-)

Please keep us posted on your success!

Blessings,
Duane

You know I was one of those lucky ones that made it around 150K. I just kept hitting a wall on “what can I do to improve” & its so amazing how straightfoward your info is. After a few years of Health issues Im thinking about going back in to selling & I feel as if your information is truly priceless!

Thanks
jman
