“Who in the world would buy that”

“I see everybody else on ebay trying to sell that”

“I don’t know anybody who would be interested in that”

“There ain’t no way I can make money on eBay selling that”
….would enter my mind almost instantly. It seemed like I had something negative to say on just about every thing I wrote down on my list.
And as it turned out, those little negative thoughts that I allowed to control my actions cost me six more months of not making money on eBay – plus misery, frustrations and nearly my first six-figure eBay business.
Here’s How The Story Went Down….
One of the things that I was very passionate about and wrote down on my DHIP list was drag racing (years ago I used to race professionally on the NHRA tour and I did this for about 10 years). I didn’t write anything in particular down on my DHIP list other than the words “drag racing”.
Now instead of “exploring” each one like you should so you can find out what to sell on eBay , I just briefly looked (and I mean briefly) over “drag racing”. I had pretty much convinced myself from those negative thoughts that there wasn’t a market there for anything to do with drag racing - so I marked it off my DHIP list (big dumb, stupid mistake!).
Well, to make a long story short I was very ignorant and judgmental. I had no vision to see past the door of the words “drag racing” to see the opportunities on the other side. I didn’t think far enough out-of-the-box to realize that there was a world of opportunity waiting on me.
And the reason why is because……
My mind was totally saturated with those negative thoughts. In other words, my mind was in a state of “poverty consciousness” instead of being in a state of “prosperity consciousness” (BIG difference). And when that happens you will totally miss the opportunities that are right in front of you.
About six months later, after I had failed miserably from trying to sell what everybody else was selling on eBay and watching my family go without, I pulled out my master DHIP list that I had it mark off of and invested several days “exploring the market”.
At the end of the third day I had stumbled upon a hungry market that had their wallets wide open which I found buried deep in a sub-sub-sub-sub-category of my root search for “drag racing”.
And this itty-bitty tiny market that I stumbled upon was “automotive racing carburetors”. And that small market went on to gross $251,093.51 in less than 12 months. (Notice I said gross ….our actual profits was only about $105,000.00)
Here’s what happened next….
Since that fateful day of realizing what I was doing wrong, Heather and I have gone on to build over 5 six-figure eBay businesses, all in different markets. And here’s the really scary part ….3 of those businesses were also scratched off of our original DHIP list.
I didn’t share our story with you to be brag or be boastful in any way. I shared it simply because I want you to understand how powerful YOUR DHIP list really is.
And if you’re serious about finding out what to sell on eBay then YOUR goal here is to create a master DHIP list of about 10-20 different desires, hobbies, interests or passions that you have in life (don’t worry, I’ll show you exactly what to do with them soon).
And whatever you do – DO NOT mark any of them off your DHIP list until we’ve had the chance to “research” each one of them.

How To Find Out Exactly What To Sell On eBay For Insane Profits (Part 1)

Hi Duane here…..
Today we’re going to start ripping the “Market Research Process” apart piece-by-piece so you’ll know how to go about finding out what to sell on ebay.
And the reason the we’re going to do this is because we’ve established from the last training post that you’ll never know how to make money on eBay unless you know what the market wants and or what they’re already actively buying by the droves. (Remember, the market ultimately decides YOUR financial outcome).
So the first step to finding out what the market wants so you’ll know what to sell on eBay starts with ”exploring the market”. This helps to stimulate your brain, helps you visualize what’s beyond your four walls and gets you thinking out-of-the-box. Its broken down into three simple-doable action steps.

Action Step #1: Create Master DHIP List

Action Step #2: Expand Master DHIP List

Action Step #3: Prioritize Master DHIP List
Our focus today will be completing action step #1 which will be to create your ”Master DHIP List”.
Now before I go any further, I want to set the stage for how serious and powerful this action step really is because when I explain to you what a “DHIP” list is and how you go about getting it – you may think that finding out what to sell on eBay can’t possibly be this simple. But let me reassure you that is it. Here’s why….
Heather and I have researched, built and launched over 5 successful six-figure eBay businesses and have helped many others do the same. And all of this success came from our DHIP list.
As a matter of fact, I just got off the phone with one of my students today who sounded like a kid at a birthday party because they just found another market to make money on eBay that will allow them to create wealth in. And that market came from their DHIP list.
You see, a DHIP list is made up of your desires, hobbies, interets and passions in life and it’s an extremely powerful asset when you know how to use it.
Not only that but…..
The reason you start with your DHIP list is because the business that you build must create excitement or bring pleasure into your life. Otherwise it becomes dull, boring and unfulfilling. And when that happens it becomes a “have to” instead of a “want to” (almost like a job) and the end result is poverty at best.
Plus….
You already have some level of expertise about them and that helps you to communicate with your market and establish yourself as the “expert” or “go to” person. And the reason that’s important is because people want to buy from people who they feel “know” & “understand” their needs.
One final thing too….
It gives you confidence in what you’re doing and that plays an important role in everything you do.
When you start with your DHIP list, you’re more confident and that confidence spills over in your titles, subtitles, description, sales copy, customer service and everything else that you do which magically creates more success.
I want you to pull out pen and paper and create your own DHIP list. Lock yourself up in your closet if you have too (I did) so you can think and ask yourself question like….

What am I passionate about?
-
What do I think about all the time?
-
What am I good at?
-
What do I enjoy doing?
-
What do I enjoy talking about?
-
What do I know that’s fun?
-
What are my interests?
-
What are my hobbies that I enjoy?
-
What products/industries do I find interesting?
Keep asking yourself questions like these and write down your answers. And whatever you do, don’t be judgmental about what you’re writing down with thoughts like ….
-
“This won’t work” ….
-
“That’s a stupid idea” ….
-
“Who would buy that”….
-
“There’s no market for that one” ….
-
“Who would be interested in that” ….
-
“I see everybody else selling that” ….
Being judgmental is a costly NO-NO. And I’ll cover the $251,093.51 judgmental mistake that I made on the next post but for right now your only job is to close your eyes and think about each of those questions and write down your answers.

Today officially kicks off our blog training and I’m going to address one of the biggest questions right off the bat that I get all of the time which is…..
” How To Make Money On eBay “
Now – that question has more than one answer simply because you’re not just going to do “one thing” (like press a button) and magically make money on eBay. It doesn’t work that way. Actually there are 5 essential areas to building a successful eBay business that you need to know and I call them the ”CORE 5“.
And here they are ….
- Market
- Product
- Traffic
- Conversions
- Service
Each core area is a contributing factor to the overall success of YOU making money on eBay consistently and endlessly. And if you fall short in any one of the Core 5 areas then your eBay business will be short lived or worse, you will always struggle to make ends-meat.
So today I’m going to start with the most crucial area of the “CORE 5″ which is the Market.
And here’s the reason why…..
You will never know “how to make money on eBay” until you understand what the Market wants. This is the first step and the most important decision that you will ever make when it comes to making money on eBay.
It doesn’t start with your product, nor does it start with your traffic, conversion or customer service skills although they are extremely important and will play a vital role in your overall success. Nope, it starts in the Market and for good reason….
It’s The “Core” Of Your Business!
In other words, the Market ultimately decides YOUR financial outcome (it always has and always will). Get this right and you’re set to experience some massive success. Get it wrong and well, ……you’re hosed!
Now I know that sounds a bit brutal but it’s just the cold hard facts of business. See, you can have all of the greatest skills in business but if you bring an Eskimo ice……he ain’t buying!
And unfortunately most sellers are always selling ice to Eskimos by bringing their product straight into the marketplace without ever researching the Market first to see if their product is actually what consumers want, are passionately willing to spend money on, are actively buying right now by the truck loads or …..if it’s a winnable/profitable market to enter into.
Bringing a product straight into the Market without research is actually backwords (Fire, Aim, Ready) from how it works but it may seem normal to you because that’s how everybody else does it. The truth is….
“You never bring a product to the market. You always
bring the market to your product”.
In other words, you research the Market first to find out what people want or what they’re already actively buying by the droves and then YOU sell “that” to them.
Here’s the bottom line…..
The financial success of your eBay business will always hinge here in the Market by how well you diligently….

This is actually the first step when it comes to “how to make money on eBay”. And I’ll be covering the entire market research process over the next coming weeks as I teach you how to find out what people want.
But for right now you need to understand that when it’s all said and done – YOUR role in the Market is to sell people what they want. Not what you want. Not what you think they want and surely not what you hope they want to buy.
